A Day of Impact and Collaboration in Nongoma
In a powerful display of inter-SETA synergy and community commitment, the Local Government SectorEducation and Training Authority (LGSETA) spent a productive day in Nongoma, KwaZulu-Natal, focusing on youth empowerment and educational support. The day’s activities were divided into two activities: a collaborative “Back to School” campaign and a career guidance session for high school learners.
The morning of 3 March 2026 commenced with a high-profile Rural Outreach and Back to School Campaign, where the LGSETA joined forces with the Insurance SETA (INSETA) and the Wholesale & Retail SETA (W&RSETA). This unified “InterSETA” approach was designed to address the immediate needs of rural primary school learners while fostering a culture of learning from an early age.
The event was held under the esteemed presence of the Royal House, with a special message of support from Ndlunkulu Uka Jobe. Her presence underscored the importance of traditional leadership in driving educational excellence within rural communities.
A highlight of this session was the official handover of school shoes to learners from eBukahalini and Mangqwashu Primary Schools. By removing the barrier of basic school wear, the SETAs ensured that these learners could walk to school with dignity and focus on their studies. After the morning handover, SETA representatives gathered at God’s Mountain Church International for a career development event attended by the Royal House, Ndwali Foundation, the Department of Education, and over 500 local learners. Speakers inspired the youth to grab their educational opportunities and stay focused on a bright future.
A major highlight was the INSETA CEO’s pledge of five bursaries for the top-performing students. Throughout the day, learners engaged with various SETA stalls to explore career paths and qualifications. This well-executed event proved once again that Inter-SETA collaboration is the key to impactful outreach.
LGSETA remains committed to ensuring that even the most remote learners have the resources to shape the South Africa of tomorrow.
